Verification of performance is an integral part of the product development process. We are not satisfied with delivering a ‘paper’ design only, so we have invested significant time and money in setting up our lab. This enables us to verify the performance of our own designs, and allows us to design and deliver better products.
Our lab has the facilities to characterize the performance of LEDs and LED products. We mainly focus on characterization of optical performance, but we’re also capable of measuring electrical and thermal parameters. We even have a thermal imaging camera to measure temperature and identify hot spots, poor thermal contact or other thermal issues.
Our largest piece of equipment is a goniophotometer. It measures the light emission at various angles around a lightsource. We use this instrument together with our custom-built software to measure optical performance of LED systems:
- Angular intensity distribution.
- Spectral distribution.
- Optical characteristics at different angles (for instance colour shifts over angle)
- Performance at different drive currents
- Performance at different DMX values
Below is a video of the goniophotometer in action. The product being measured is a Philips Lexel ™ downlight module at different angles and different DMX values.
